Job Title: Elementary Choral Music Specialist
Event: South Loudoun Youth Chorale 2025-2026 Concert Season
Dates: Weekly Rehearsals on Mondays, Bi-annual Concerts
Job Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Elementary Choral Music Specialist to join our dynamic team. The selected candidate will teach and conduct Ignite, our newest choir for 3rd and 4th graders in the 2025-2026 concert season. Responsibilities will include developing a comprehensive teaching curriculum that is age-appropriate, selecting appropriate music, and working collaboratively with the Artistic and Associate Artistic Directors, as well as the Executive Director and Board of Directors. The ideal candidate will not only excel in leading our 3rd and 4th grade music program throughout our performance season, but will contribute their expertise to the growth and success of the South Loudoun Youth Chorale as an organization.
Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development:
Design a dynamic and engaging curriculum tailored to the musical and developmental needs of 3rd-4th graders.
Integrate age-appropriate vocal technique, music theory, and ensemble skills into the curriculum.
All curriculum aspects should align with SLYC’s mission, vision, and core values.
Music Selection:
Choose diverse and inclusive repertoire that is age appropriate and inspires young singers.
Ensure that selected music aligns with the overall goals of the program and is pedagogically appropriate for elementary-aged students.
Recruitment:
Develop and implement a strategic plan for student recruitment within the specified age group.
Foster positive relationships with schools and educators to encourage ongoing participation and support in student recruitment efforts.
Collaborate with local schools, community centers, and other relevant organizations to promote the program and attract participants.
Season Facilitation:
Conduct weekly rehearsals, engaging in a positive learning environment.
Focus on vocal development and musical expression to serve as a building block for students’ future in SLYC.
Collaboration with Directors:
Work closely with the Artistic and Associate Artistic Directors to align the program with the organization's artistic vision.
Collaborate on the integration of the elementary choral program into the broader musical curriculum.
Communication and Coordination:
Maintain open and effective communication with the Executive Director and Artistic staff, providing regular updates on program progress.
Collaborate with other staff members to ensure the seamless execution of the overall program.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music Education, Choral Conducting, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in teaching and conducting choral music for elementary-aged students.
Strong knowledge of vocal pedagogy and child development.
Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Collaborative spirit and ability to work effectively with other program leaders.
Stipend for 2025-2026 Concert Season: $1,850 total, which covers nine 45-minute rehearsals at $75 each and a $250 performance fee for two concert cycles
