Who can join SLYC?
The South Loudoun Youth Chorale now offers choirs for 1st-12th graders. Spark is a non-auditioned choir for 1st-2nd graders. Ignite is a non-auditioned choir for 3rd-4th graders. Enchant is a non-auditioned choir for 5th-6th graders. Illuminate is an auditioned choir for 7-9th grade treble singers. Fortify is an auditioned choir for 7th-12th grade tenors and basses. Elevate is an auditioned choir for 10th-12th grader treble singers. Summit is an auditioned high school mixed ensemble that is auditioned from Elevate and Fortify. Read more about our ensembles here.
Who will be conducting each choir?
Our dynamic artistic staff provides phenomenal musical leadership for their choirs. Elevate and Summit are lead by the Artistic Director Laura Lazarevich. Illuminate and Fortify are conducted by our Associate Artistic Director Erik Jacobs. Ignite & Enchant is directed by our Elementary Choral Music Specialist Ashley Forrest. Spark is directed by our Elementary Choral Music Specialist Emma Wolfe.
What time are rehearsals?
Rehearsals times depend on which choir the student is in. All rehearsals are on Monday nights. Spark & Ignite are both 5:00-5:45. Enchant is 6:00-7:00, Illuminate is 6:00-7:20, Fortify is 7:00-8:20, Elevate is 7:00-8:20, and Summit is 8:30-9:15.
What is the official refund policy?
Before August 15: 100% tuition refund, less a $25 administrative fee
August 16 - September 7: 50% tuition refund, less a $25 administrative fee
September 8+: No tuition refundsFor the spring semester, we can offer a 50% refund through January 25. There is no refund for the spring after January 25.
Do I have to live in Loudoun County to join?
No, any 1st-12th grader is welcome to join us!
What are the audition requirements?
1st-6th graders do not have to audition and can register for Ignite or Enchant here. All 7th-12th graders must audition and can learn more here.
Do I have to be registered in a school choral program to participate?
All 7th-12th graders must be enrolled in their school’s music program (choir, band, orchestra, guitar). At this time, we are not requiring 1st-6th graders to be enrolled in music, but we highly encourage enrollment if it’s available at your school.
Do I have to know the directors or other SLYC students in order to register?
Nope! We’d love to have new students from our community join us!
Are you offering a sibling discount?
Yes we offer a 10% sibling discount.
Are you offering any scholarships?
Yes we offer scholarships on a first come first served and as-needed basis. Students must audition/register first before applications are accepted.
How can I support SLYC?

How many performances do the ensembles have?
Each ensemble will perform at least twice, with additional optional opportunities.
What other programs do you offer?
SLYC also has a Workshop Series for all students interested in auditioning for an honor choir like All-Virginia, All District, etc. Learn more about our workshops here.
