Laura Lazarevich

Co-Founder & Artistic Director

Laura Lazarevich is a passionate choral educator, conductor, and advocate for young musicians whose career has been dedicated to inspiring artistic excellence and creating transformative musical experiences. As Co-Founder and Artistic Director of the South Loudoun Youth Chorale, she leads the organization's artistic vision, conducts its high school singers, and directs educational initiatives, including audition preparation workshops.

Prior to founding SLYC, Laura taught high school choral music for 14 years in Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun counties. Under her direction, her ensembles consistently earned Superior ratings at choral assessments, while her students were regularly selected for District, State, and National Honor Choirs.

Recognized for her commitment to musical excellence and expressive, passionate performances, Laura is a sought-after guest conductor and choral adjudicator. She has conducted honor choirs throughout Virginia, including Districts I, II, X, and XII, the Prince William and Chesterfield All-County Choruses, and the Diocesan Choir Festival.

An active member of the Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA) and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), Laura has held significant leadership roles in the choral profession. She served as ACDA Southern Division Senior High School Repertoire and Resources Chair from 2017 to 2021. In 2017, she chaired the Virginia Choral Directors Association's sight-reading assessment committee, helping develop statewide assessment guidelines and procedures.

Her professional honors include the 2012 ACDA Southern Region Colleen Kirk Award, recognizing excellence in the first three years of teaching, and the 2013 Outstanding Early Career Music Educator Alumni Award from James Madison University.

Laura earned her Bachelor of Music Education from James Madison University and her Master of Music Education from Florida State University, where she studied with Kevin Fenton, Judy Bowers, and André Thomas. She is also an active member of Caritas NoVa, a women's chamber ensemble dedicated to supporting local nonprofit organizations through charitable concerts.

Laura resides in Aldie, Virginia, with her husband, Pete, and their children, Carson and Claire.
