SHINE is SLYC's inclusive, non-auditioned choir created to give singers a welcoming place to make music, build friendships, and experience the joy of belonging to an ensemble.
Rehearsals combine singing with movement, games, and opportunities for connection in an environment where singers can participate, contribute, and grow in ways that work for them. Individualized supports help singers engage successfully while remaining part of a shared ensemble experience.
SHINE isn't about changing what choir is. It's about creating more ways for singers to experience everything that makes choir special.

*Extended eligibility through age 22 is available for students receiving special education services

SHINE is designed to create multiple ways for singers to participate successfully in a shared ensemble experience. Rehearsals incorporate singing, movement, games, friendship, and individualized supports while keeping every singer connected to the music and the ensemble.

No. SHINE is non-auditioned, and previous choir or music experience is not required. Singers can enter with different levels of musical experience and grow from wherever they begin.

SLYC is committed to supporting singers across all of our programs. For SHINE families, we encourage you to share information that will help us understand how your singer learns, communicates, participates, and experiences music most successfully. Our goal is to work with families to create an experience in which each singer can meaningfully participate as part of the ensemble.
